Floating
homes why?
Within
the UK the threat from climate change is becoming a real issue to homes owners.
With the increased risk of flooding and rising sea levels we believe not enough
is being done to safe guard homes. Currently around 5 million people live in
flood risk areas in England and Wales, that’s one in six homes being affected.
Cube Studios believe we have found a solution to homes being destroyed by
flooding and water and that’s the Amphibious Home. A home that is stable on dry
land and only rises due to water. Annual costs of flood damage are currently at least £1.1 billion
and are expected to rise in coming years. With these homes the cost of damages
and the payouts in insurance will drastically reduce.
Floating homes
are a new trend in the UK, but already popular in Europe, especially in Holland
where designers have long considered sea levels in relation to housing and city
planning. Working with the water is a more efficient way of construction than working
against it. The homes will be self-sustaining, as people are becoming more
aware of their impact on the environment. Our homes minimize the ecological
impact. Self-sufficient homes supply all their own energy, water and sewer
needs.
With increasing population and
the need for housing is becoming more important. With the current baby boom and
the increase in the living age more housing is needed to deal with these pressures.
We believe a solution to this is building on flood plains but in a safe and
confortable environment. Building on flood plains have always been a worry for
people and their perception of these areas, but with the introduction of these
amphibious homes they can live safety without the worry of being flooded.
